Monasteriata Montipora
Montipora monasteriata
Care Summary
Montipora monasteriata has a distinctive rose-like whorling growth pattern that sets it apart from flat encrusting Montipora — small polyps arranged in concentric swirls that become genuinely beautiful as the colony develops. Mid-tank placement under high light with medium flow; like all Montipora it needs consistent intensity to color up and will stay dull brown in marginal lighting conditions. Montipora are susceptible to Montipora-eating nudibranch, a pest that's easy to miss until you have a major infestation — inspect all new frags carefully and dip them before introduction. No target feeding; stable, SPS-level water chemistry with consistent alk and calcium is what drives growth and coloration in monasteriata — feed the system, not the coral.
