Care Summary
The Blue Spotted Jawfish is one of the most visually striking jawfish species but requires a deep, mixed-substrate sand bed of at least 4 inches to construct and maintain its burrow. Keep it in 30+ gallons with a tight-fitting lid; jawfish are notorious jumpers, especially during the first few weeks when they are still establishing territory. It will excavate constantly, relocating rubble and shell pieces to reinforce its burrow entrance; do not place rockwork near its territory or it will undermine the structure. Feed frozen mysis and meaty foods twice daily by directing food near the burrow opening; jawfish rarely travel far from home to eat and will be outcompeted if food is broadcast across the tank.
