Care Summary
The Bluecheek is one of the most visually perfect butterflyfishes in terms of symmetry and coloration, a solid school-bus yellow body with those distinctive blue cheek patches and clean dark eye bar. It is a Red Sea endemic, which contributes to both its premium price point and the strong regional following it has among hobbyists building Red Sea biotope displays. Like all butterflyfishes it feeds on coral polyps in the wild, making it strictly a FOWLR or species-only fish in a reef context. This species does best when kept in pairs with a Red Sea-specific aquascape; single specimens in mixed FOWLR systems tend to do less well behaviorally.
