Foxface Rabbitfish
Siganus vulpinus
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
The Foxface Rabbitfish is one of the best algae control fish you can add to a 75+ gallon reef; it will graze nuisance hair algae, bubble algae, and film algae efficiently throughout the day. Its venomous dorsal spines are a serious concern; handling injuries are painful and require medical attention, so always use a net and never use your bare hands near this fish. It is labeled caution because it may occasionally nip at coral polyps; in well-fed systems with abundant algae this rarely happens, but an underfed Foxface in a sparse tank will sample corals. Feed nori clips, herbivore pellets, and algae-based foods in addition to natural grazing; a fat, well-fed Foxface is a well-behaved Foxface that focuses on algae rather than coral.
