Japanese Pygmy Angelfish
Centropyge interrupta
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
The Japanese Pygmy Angelfish is one of the rarest and most coveted Centropyge species; it is a deepwater fish that requires very stable, cool water around 72-75F to thrive in captivity. Most specimens available are wild-caught from deep collection zones and arrive stressed; tank-raised or very well-conditioned specimens from reputable collectors are worth the premium. Feed sponge-based angel foods, mysis, nori, and varied frozen blends twice daily; color maintenance requires dietary variety, and a fish fed only mysis will slowly lose its vibrant markings. House it in 100+ gallons with stable chemistry; this is not a fish for a new tank or for reefers who cannot maintain consistently stable parameters.
