Care Summary
The Regal Angel is one of the most coveted and most difficult large angels in the hobby; Red Sea specimens are significantly hardier than Indo-Pacific collections and are worth the premium. Plan for 100+ gallons with a mature, heavily stocked reef; Regal Angels fare better in reef tanks with abundant natural sponge and algae than in bare FOWLR systems where they are forced to eat only prepared foods. Feed sponge-based angel blends, nori, live or frozen sponge matter, and varied frozen foods multiple times daily; the number one cause of death is refusal to eat, and dietary variety is your best hedge against this. Acquire only actively eating specimens from a dealer who can demonstrate feeding; a Regal that has not eaten in transit or at the LFS has a dramatically lower survival probability regardless of your tank quality.
