Care Summary
The Chocolate Chip Starfish is an eye-catching large starfish with distinctive dark tubercles rising from a tan or orange body, commonly seen in the trade and easy to keep in the right setup. This species is not reef-safe and will actively consume corals, clams, sponges, and other sessile invertebrates, so it belongs only in a fish-only or FOWLR tank with no coral or vulnerable invertebrate tankmates. They grow large, often reaching eight to ten inches across, and need a tank of at least 75 gallons with open substrate and steady, high-quality water to thrive long-term. Feed several times a week with meaty foods including clam on the half shell, chopped fish, and shrimp placed directly in front of them, as they will decline quickly if underfed.
