Care Summary

The Fighting Conch is a sand-dwelling herbivore and detritivore that plows through the sandbed turning over detritus and grazing on microalgae, making it a hardworking cleanup addition. It needs a tank of at least 50 gallons with a deep, fine sand bed to move through freely, and it is entirely reef-safe with corals and most invertebrates, though it can topple frags with its active bulldozing. The name is a bit misleading: Fighting Conchs are not aggressive toward other species, though two males may spar briefly if space is limited, so give them room. Feed with dried algae, spirulina-based pellets, and allow detritus to accumulate naturally, and they will largely feed themselves in an established tank with an active sand bed.
