Care Summary
The Porcelain Crab is not a true crab but a filter feeder that uses feathery fans to sweep plankton and particles from the water column, making it a unique functional addition to any reef. It commonly associates with anemones and is peaceful enough for community reef tanks, though it will occasionally be out-competed for anemone space by resident clownfish. Fragility is the main concern: its claws snap off easily under stress and while they regrow, repeated losses are a sign of harassment from fish or larger inverts that should be addressed. Supplement its filter feeding with regular broadcast feeding of phytoplankton, oyster eggs, or fine-particle reef foods to ensure it gets enough nutrition in low-flow or low-plankton systems.
