Care Summary
The Red Knob Starfish, also called the African Red Knob Sea Star, is a large and striking species covered in bright red bumps on an orange or red body, reaching up to 12 inches across. It is not considered fully reef-safe and may consume soft corals, sponges, and other invertebrates, so it is best kept in a fish-only or FOWLR system or a reef with no small invertebrates at risk. Like other large starfish, it is highly sensitive to sudden changes in salinity and temperature, and drip acclimation over two or more hours is strongly recommended to avoid osmotic shock. Feed multiple times per week with meaty foods such as clam, mussel, and chopped marine fish, placing food directly under the starfish to ensure it locates and consumes the meal.
