Care Summary
The White Sea Cucumber is a sturdy, pale-bodied deposit feeder that slowly bulldozes its way across the sandbed ingesting sediment and processing out organic detritus, functioning as one of the best natural sandbed janitors available. It does well in tanks with a mature, nutrient-rich sandbed and is genuinely reef safe, posing no threat to corals, fish, or other invertebrates during its slow-moving daily routine. Like all sea cucumbers, this species can eviscerate when severely stressed, releasing internal fluids and Cuvierian tubules that are toxic to tank inhabitants, so avoid housing it with aggressive fish or exposing it to sudden environmental swings. No direct feeding is required in an established tank with a healthy sandbed, but adding periodic doses of reef roids or fine organic matter to the substrate will help sustain it in lower-nutrient systems.
