Care Summary

Encrusting Coralline Alga forms smooth, hard plates directly over rock surfaces and is one of the hardiest types of CCA. It plays an important ecological role in reef systems by stabilising rubble and providing settlement cues for coral larvae. In the aquarium, stable calcium and alkalinity are essential for growth. Under good conditions it spreads readily, turning grey rock a striking purple-pink. A healthy CCA population indicates excellent water quality.
