Care Summary
The Blackcap Basslet is a deepwater Caribbean species that prefers the lower third of the tank; position rockwork with overhangs and caves where it can orient upside-down if it wants to. It is reef-safe and peaceful toward corals and most tankmates, but it can be aggressive toward other basslets and similar-sized fish in smaller tanks. House it in 30+ gallons and keep it as the sole basslet; pairs are possible only in larger tanks with clearly divided territories. Feed frozen mysis and meaty small foods twice daily; it is not a picky eater but can be shy at first, hiding for several days before gaining confidence to feed in the open.
