Care Summary
The Blue Hippo Tang needs 100+ gallons minimum as an adult, despite what pet store nano setups suggest; juveniles grow quickly and a cramped tang is a sick tang. This species is the most ich-susceptible fish in the hobby; run a proper quarantine of 6+ weeks in a hospital tank before adding it to a display system. Feed nori clips daily plus frozen herbivore blends; a well-fed hippo tang shows deeper blue coloration and is significantly more disease-resistant than one running on minimal rations. Strong, random flow and open swimming lanes matter; the blue hippo is a pelagic swimmer in the wild and without space and movement it develops HLLE and loses its vibrant color.
