Goldflake Angelfish
Apolemichthys xanthopunctatus
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
The Goldflake Angel is one of the most expensive and sought-after pygmy angels in the hobby, with golden spots on a white body that make it look like no other fish. It needs 75+ gallons with mature live rock and stable water chemistry; this is a demanding species that does not tolerate parameter swings or poor water quality that hardier fish would ignore. Feed sponge-containing angel blends, nori, mysis, and enriched brine twice daily; goldflakes that eat well maintain their stunning coloration, while those that are underfed fade noticeably within months. The caution reef rating is real; goldflakes can nip at LPS and zoanthids, especially in smaller systems; keep them well-fed and in larger tanks to minimize this behavior.
