Care Summary
The Humbug Damselfish is practically indestructible, survives conditions that would kill most saltwater fish, and is one of the most commonly available species in the hobby for exactly those reasons. The problem is that once established in a tank it becomes extremely territorial and will harass and injure new fish additions that it could not possibly defeat in a fair fight. If you plan to have any kind of community system eventually, do not start with this fish; it will make adding anything new a genuine battle. For a species-only or aggressive damselfish biotope system, the Humbug is a legitimately impressive and beautiful fish that deserves more credit than it gets in reef circles.
