Care Summary
The Lawnmower Blenny earns its name by constantly grazing film algae and hair algae from the rockwork and glass; add it to a tank with a genuine algae problem and watch it work. House it in 30+ gallons with mature rockwork that has established algae growth; adding one to a bare tank or a new system with no algae will result in a starving blenny within weeks. Supplement its grazing with nori sheets, algae wafers, and spirulina pellets; a blenny that runs out of natural algae to eat will turn to nipping at fleshy LPS polyps out of desperation. It is personable and entertaining, often sitting in an elevated position surveying the tank; it can be territorial toward other blennies or similar-shaped fish in smaller tanks.
