Care Summary
The Red Mithrax Crab, also known as the Emerald Crab, is a proven algae eater with particular skill at targeting bubble algae, making it one of the most requested cleanup crew additions in reef stores. It is generally reef-safe in well-fed systems, but individuals can become opportunistic toward corals and small invertebrates if they go hungry, so consistent feeding is the key to keeping them on good behavior. Keep one per 30 gallons of tank volume, as multiple individuals in close quarters may fight over territory, and provide plenty of rockwork crevices for them to shelter in. Feed several times a week with meaty foods, algae-based pellets, or dried seaweed to supplement their natural grazing and reduce the chance of coral nipping.
