Care Summary
The Tiger Pistol Shrimp is one of the most sought-after symbiotic shrimp in the hobby, pairing naturally with watchman and shrimpgoby species to create one of the most entertaining and functional partnerships in a reef tank. It is reef-safe and non-aggressive toward most tankmates, though its powerful snapping claw can stun or disorient very small fish and nano invertebrates that wander into the burrow entrance. Successful pairing with a goby requires a fine sandy substrate at least three inches deep, and both animals should be introduced simultaneously into the same rockwork zone for the bond to establish quickly. Scavenges actively for detritus and shared food scraps, but occasional target feeding of meaty foods near the burrow entrance will bring both the shrimp and its goby partner out for easy observation.
