Care Summary

The Elegant Firefish takes everything beautiful about the regular Firefish and amplifies it, with a gradient running from pearl white through pink, magenta, and deep purple that looks painted on. It is more retiring than its relative and spends more time hovering at or below cave openings, so position the tank where you can see the lower rockwork clearly. Lid security is non-negotiable; this species jumps easily when spooked and losing one over a missed cover gap is heartbreaking given the price and beauty. Keep it in a calm system with peaceful tankmates and gradually it will gain confidence and spend more time in open water.
