Care Summary
The Kole Tang is one of the best algae-grazing tangs for medium-sized reefs; its specialized comb-like teeth scrape diatoms and film algae from rockwork that other tangs cannot access. House it in 70+ gallons with substantial live rock surface area to graze; a Kole in a tank with no algae growth will be underfed regardless of what prepared foods you offer. Supplement with nori clips and quality herbivore pellets; a well-fed Kole develops a rich brown color with blue and yellow highlights that is much more attractive than the dull tone of a malnourished fish. It is generally peaceful with non-tang species but can be assertive toward other bristletooth tangs; in multi-tang systems introduce it simultaneously with other tangs or add it last.
