Care Summary

The Tomini Tang is one of the best tangs for medium-sized reefs; it stays under 6 inches, is not particularly aggressive, and is an excellent algae grazer that handles diverse reef conditions well. House it in 70+ gallons with live rock and established algae growth; its bristletooth teeth are specialized for scraping diatoms and film algae from hard surfaces, making it complementary to larger herbivorous tangs. Feed nori clips and herbivore blends to supplement natural grazing; a well-fed Tomini develops richer brown coloration with vivid yellow and blue highlights that fade when it is nutritionally deficient. It is generally peaceful in multi-tang displays and one of the safest additions to an established tang community; introduce it with other tangs simultaneously or add it last rather than first if tangs are already present.
