McCosker's Flasher Wrasse is one of the most popular flasher wrasses for its vivid orange and red male coloration; the male's dorsal fin display when courting females is one of the more spectacular small-fish behaviors in the reef hobby. Keep one male with two or three females in 55+ gallons; two males will fight repeatedly and the weaker one will eventually perish from stress and injury. A secure lid is essential; flasher wrasses are active jumpers and the display fins make them prone to catching on loose-fitting mesh covers. Feed enriched frozen mysis and brine twice daily; consistent nutrition keeps the male displaying frequently and both sexes showing their best coloration.
