One Spot Foxface
Siganus unimaculatus
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
The One Spot Foxface has the same venomous dorsal spines and algae-grazing value as the standard Foxface, with the added feature of a bold black spot on its flank that fades when the fish is stressed. House it in 75+ gallons with rock surfaces covered in natural algae growth; it supplements grazing with prepared foods but needs genuine algae availability to stay behaviorally engaged. Never handle it barehanded; the dorsal spines cause a serious, painful sting that requires medical attention and the fish can deliver them even when you are trying to help it. Feed nori clips and herbivore pellets daily; a well-fed One Spot Foxface rarely touches coral polyps, but a hungry individual in an algae-poor tank will sample whatever fleshy tissue it can find.
