Care Summary
The Striped Fang Blenny mimics the coloration and body shape of the venomous Meiacanthus species, gaining protection from predators through false advertising. Despite the mimic coloration it does have functional fangs used only defensively when swallowed; it is not aggressive toward tankmates and the bite is a last resort, not an offensive weapon. House it in 30+ gallons with open perching spots; it is bolder than typical algae blennies and will spend time in the open water column, especially near its favorite rockwork perch. Feed frozen mysis and small meaty foods twice daily; it is a carnivore rather than an algae grazer and needs protein-rich food to maintain the bold yellow and black striping of the mimicry pattern.
