Care Summary

The Yellow Watchman Goby is one of the best beginner marine fish available; it is hardy, personable, reef-safe, and pairs reliably with pistol shrimp to create one of the hobby's most entertaining behavioral partnerships. House it in 20+ gallons with a sand bed of 3+ inches for the pistol shrimp to excavate; without the shrimp it will still do fine but the behavioral richness of the partnership is well worth adding a paired Alpheid shrimp. Feed frozen mysis and meaty foods twice daily near the burrow entrance; it is a hearty eater for a goby and will approach food actively once settled into its territory. Secure the lid; Yellow Watchman Gobies jump when startled, especially during the first few days before they feel at home; a well-fitted lid prevents what is otherwise an entirely preventable loss.
