Care Summary
The Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab is one of the workhorses of the reef cleanup crew, staying small enough to fit in tight spaces where larger crabs can't reach and picking off algae and detritus as it goes. It does well in reef tanks of any size and is generally reef safe, though like all hermits it will opportunistically evict snails from their shells, so keep extra empty shells available to reduce that behavior. The main thing to watch is aggression between hermits if you overstock them, particularly in tanks without enough food or shell options to go around. Supplement their scavenging with occasional small pieces of dried seaweed or sinking pellets to keep them healthy and less likely to bother other tank inhabitants.
