Care Summary
The Knobbly Sea Star is one of the most recognizable sea stars in the trade, with thick arms studded with bold spines and a striking red, orange, and cream coloration that draws attention in any display. It needs a large tank with a deep sandbed and plenty of open substrate to roam, and it absolutely cannot be trusted in a reef setup since it will consume corals, clams, and other invertebrates without hesitation. This species is best suited to a fish-only or FOWLR system where it can be the star of the show without access to livestock it will eat. Feed it meaty foods like mussel, shrimp, or clam pieces placed directly on the substrate a few times a week so it doesn't start eyeing your other tank inhabitants.
