Mutable Sea Star
Linckia multifora

Reef Safe
Care Summary
The Mutable Sea Star is a smaller, more manageable cousin of the Blue Linckia, with mottled pink and red arms that give it an almost painterly appearance as it slowly explores the rockwork. It is genuinely reef safe, posing no threat to corals or invertebrates, and does well in established tanks with live rock that provides the biofilm and microorganisms it grazes on constantly. The main challenge with this species is acclimation. It is extremely sensitive to salinity and temperature swings, so drip acclimate it slowly over at least an hour before introducing it to the display tank. Avoid housing it with peppermint shrimp, harlequin shrimp, or any fish known to nip at sea stars, as this delicate species will not tolerate harassment well.
