Care Summary

The Purple Linckia is a strikingly colored, slow-moving sea star that crawls across open rockwork grazing on biofilm, microbes, and detritus, and it's one of the most visually distinctive stars available in the hobby. It needs a large, well-established tank with extensive live rock surface area and very stable parameters, and it must be kept away from known sea star predators like harlequin shrimp and pufferfish. The expert rating comes from its extreme sensitivity to salinity swings, temperature changes, and poor acclimation: always drip-acclimate Linckia stars for a minimum of two hours and never expose them to air during handling or transfer. It does not require target feeding in a mature, nutrient-rich tank, but supplementing with small offerings of marine algae or sponge-based foods near its path can support its long-term health.
