Red Fromia Starfish

Care Summary

The Red Fromia Starfish is a solid red to orange multi-armed sea star commonly recommended for reef tanks due to its striking color and relatively peaceful nature. It is generally considered reef-safe and non-predatory toward corals, doing best in tanks of 75 gallons or more with established live rock and a mature substrate that supports microfauna and biofilm. Fromia stars are sensitive to water quality and particularly to copper, which is fatal even in trace amounts, so never use copper-based medications in any system housing this animal. Feed several times a week by placing small pieces of clam, mussel, or other meaty foods under the starfish, as they can slowly starve in systems without adequate natural food sources and supplemental feeding.
