Care Summary
Acropora polystoma grows as an irregular cluster or digitate colony, with short, finger-like branches packed into an uneven, characterful head. Aquacultured pieces are typically brown-green through the body with purple tips, the tips colouring up best under strong light and stable water. Growth is moderate, thickening the cluster steadily once established.
Care
This advanced Acropora needs a mature, stable SPS system. Keep alkalinity stable above all else, with calcium and magnesium held consistent alongside it. Give it high light in the PAR 250–400 range, ramped up gradually, and medium to high random flow that works into the cluster rather than a constant jet on its surface. Digitate colonies can trap debris between the branches, so interior flow is worth arranging deliberately. An encrusting base and regular polyp extension are the health signs to look for; if colour dulls, check recent chemistry and light changes before anything else.
Placement and growth
A top placement suits it, with at least 2 in of clearance from neighbouring corals on all sides and room for the cluster to thicken. Mount it on a stable, raised point where flow can approach from several directions, fix it firmly, and let it establish without frequent handling.
