God of War
Palythoa sp.
Also known as: GOW
Care Summary
God of War is a Palythoa strain built for impact, with a red-pink face dusted in gold speckle and finished with a dark skirt that makes the centre glow by contrast. The polyps are bold and fleshy in the way good palys are, and the pattern holds together across the mat rather than fading on newer growth. It is a tier 1 name in the hobby for good reason: few red palys combine this much warmth, sparkle and presence in a single face.
Care
Place it low to mid-rockwork under medium light with medium flow moving through the mat. Like most zoanthids it does best with measurable nutrients in the water; zoanthids sulk in ultra-clean water, staying closed or shrinking instead of spreading. Keep alkalinity stable and avoid sudden swings, give it time to settle after mounting, and it should reward patience with steady, moderate growth. Handle with gloves and eye protection when fragging (palytoxin caution).
Keeping and spread
God of War grows as a connected mat that creeps outward polyp by polyp. Give it about 2 in of space so the mat can expand without immediately running into neighbours, because a healthy colony can smother slower corals it overgrows. Keep moderate aggression in mind when choosing nearby pieces. To frag, cut through the mat between polyps, lift a section cleanly, and mount it on a plug or rubble to start a new colony.
