Care Summary

The Dracula Goby is a stunning black and white goby that forms a mutualistic pair with Alpheid pistol shrimp; the shrimp digs and maintains a burrow while the goby acts as a lookout. House it in 30+ gallons with a sand bed of 3+ inches and introduce it with a paired pistol shrimp from the start; without the shrimp it will still burrow but shows far less natural behavior. Feed frozen mysis and meaty small foods twice daily near the burrow entrance; like most gobies it does not travel far to hunt and will be outcompeted at broadcast feeding. The pairing behavior is one of the most rewarding things to observe in a reef tank; once bonded the two rarely leave sight of each other and the shrimp's antennae are always on the goby's flank.
