Care Summary

The Hi Fin Banded Goby has a spectacular elongated dorsal fin that it erects during threat displays and courtship; in a calm tank it keeps this fin fanned almost constantly, which is visually impressive. House it in 30+ gallons with a sand bed and a pistol shrimp partner; the pairing behavior with Alpheid shrimp is reliable and provides structure to its daily routine that solo gobies lack. Feed frozen mysis and meaty small foods twice daily near the burrow entrance; like all gobies in this group it does not forage far from home and will be outcompeted at the surface. It is peaceful and reef-safe; the main concern is keeping the tank lidded, as gobies will jump when startled, especially at night in new tanks.
