Holacanthus passer

Care Summary
The King Angelfish is a large East Pacific species reaching 14 inches that is rarely kept by hobbyists due to its geographic rarity and specific needs; it belongs in 150+ gallon FOWLR systems. It is a dedicated invertebrate and sponge feeder in the wild; provide sponge-based angel blends as the core of its diet supplemented with mysis, nori, and varied frozen foods. Like other large pomacanthids it will devastate a coral reef; keep it in a fish-only system where it can be fed heavily without the risk of it destroying expensive coral colonies. Only one large angel per tank unless the system is over 300 gallons; King Angels are highly territorial toward conspecifics and other large angels and will fight persistently.
