Care Summary

The Rock Beauty is one of the few marine fish that is explicitly not reef-safe; in the wild it feeds almost exclusively on sponge, and in captivity it will systematically eat sponge, tunicate, and other filter-feeder colonies. This is a FOWLR-only fish; do not attempt to keep it in a reef system regardless of what you read about exceptions, because the exceptions do not hold long-term. Feeding is the primary challenge; sponge-based foods are mandatory, and you need to source frozen or fresh sponge matter as a regular component of the diet to keep this fish alive beyond 6 months. House it in 100+ gallons with only fish tankmates; it is a beautiful Atlantic species with striking yellow and black coloration that deserves a proper, dedicated FOWLR setup rather than a reef that it will eventually destroy.
