Care Summary

The Box Crab is a fascinating, dome-shelled burrower known for its specialized claws designed to crack open snail shells with impressive precision. It needs a deep, fine sandbed of at least 3 to 4 inches to bury itself, and a tank of 55 gallons or more to give it enough territory to roam without constant conflict. The challenge here is that it will absolutely hunt and consume snails and other small mollusks in your tank, so a mixed cleanup crew is not going to work well with this species. Target feed it meaty offerings like clam on the half shell or whole small snails every few days, ideally placed directly on the sandbed near where it tends to burrow.
