Bumble Bee Snail
Engina mendicaria
Care Summary
The Bumble Bee Snail is a small, striking snail with bold yellow-and-black banding that makes it one of the most visually distinctive cleanup crew additions you can put in a nano reef. It's generally peaceful and easy to keep, thriving in established tanks with plenty of substrate to burrow through and detritus to feed on. The caution flag comes from its carnivorous diet, it will target worms and other soft-bodied invertebrates in the sandbed, which makes it a poor choice for systems where you're intentionally cultivating a diverse sandbed fauna. In a typical display reef it doesn't need supplemental feeding and will sustain itself on what it finds in the substrate, but an occasional small piece of meaty food dropped to the sandbed keeps it active and visible.
