Care Summary

The Flame Scallop is a bold, eye-catching bivalve with a brilliant red mantle that pulses and flickers under reef lighting. It does best in a low-flow, low-competition tank and must be kept away from aggressive feeders and any animals that nip at sessile inverts. The hard truth is that Flame Scallops are difficult to sustain long-term because they are obligate filter feeders that require daily phytoplankton and nanoplankton inputs most hobbyists can't reliably provide. Dose live phyto or high-quality bottled phytoplankton daily and target-feed near the mantle to give this animal the best chance of thriving.
