Care Summary
The Hairy Yellow Hermit Crab is a mid-sized hermit covered in bristly yellow setae, giving it a distinctive fuzzy appearance that stands out in any reef tank. It is compatible with most reef inhabitants and makes a solid member of a mixed cleanup crew, but like all hermits it will evict snails from their shells, so keep a supply of spare empty shells in the tank to reduce aggression. These crabs can grow to a couple of inches and will occasionally pick at corals or invertebrates if underfed, so regular feeding is important to keep them focused on scavenging. Target-feed a few times weekly with meaty foods like mysis or chopped seafood, and offer a variety of empty shells in progressively larger sizes as the crab grows.
