The Halloween Hermit Crab earns its name with vivid orange and black banding across its legs, and it is one of the larger and more personality-driven hermits regularly sold in the hobby. It works well in fish-only and FOWLR systems and provides meaningful detritus cleanup, but its size makes it a risk in reef tanks with small corals or delicate invertebrates near the sand bed. Aggression toward other hermits and snails is elevated in this species compared to smaller alternatives, so stock it with caution in tightly curated cleanup crews. Provide ample empty shells sized for a larger animal, and supplement its diet with algae wafers or meaty frozen foods a few times per week.
