It requires a species-only tank with a sandy substrate for burrowing, very stable water quality, and a fully sealed lid since it is a relentless escape artist. This species is notoriously short-lived, typically surviving only one to two years even under perfect conditions, so be prepared for that reality before purchasing. Offer live or frozen shrimp, crabs, and small fish every couple of days, and never mix it with other invertebrates or fish since everything else in the tank is potential prey.
