Moon Jellyfish
Aurelia aurita
Reef Safe
With Caution
Care Summary
Moon Jellyfish are the most beginner-accessible jellyfish in the trade, with their translucent, pulsing bells and gentle temperament making them a favorite for specialty jellyfish display tanks. They require a kreisel or similar circular flow tank specifically designed to keep them suspended without getting sucked into intakes or damaged by strong directional pumps. Water quality and consistent temperature are critical, as these animals are sensitive to parameter swings, and they cannot be mixed with standard reef inhabitants or any animals that might nip at their bells. Feed baby brine shrimp, copepods, or commercially prepared jellyfish food two to three times daily, as they are continuous passive feeders that need frequent, small offerings to maintain body mass.
