Care Summary
Nassarius Snails are the cleanup crew of the sandbed, spending most of their time buried and emerging rapidly when they detect meaty food hitting the water. They are entirely reef-safe and compatible with virtually all tank inhabitants, and a group of five to ten in a 30-gallon or larger system will make a real dent in detritus and uneaten food. The challenge is ensuring the sand bed stays loose and oxygenated so they can bury and move freely, compacted sand limits their effectiveness considerably. They feed on detritus and leftover meaty foods, but if the tank is very clean, drop a small piece of shrimp or fish near the sand weekly to keep them active and well-nourished.
