Nerite Snails are compact, hardy algae eaters that earn their keep in reef and FOWLR tanks alike, grazing diatoms and film algae off glass, rock, and equipment. They stay small, top out around an inch, and are reef-safe with no interest in corals or invertebrates, making them a solid pick for nano tanks and community systems. The main drawback is their tendency to deposit small white calcite eggs on hard surfaces throughout the tank, which are harmless but stubborn to remove. Keep them in established tanks with enough algae growth to sustain them, and supplement with blanched nori or algae wafers if the tank runs clean.
