Care Summary
The Pom Pom Crab is a nano reef favorite, a tiny species that carries small anemones in each claw, waving them defensively and using them to capture passing food particles in the water column. It is completely reef-safe and peaceful, but its very small size means it needs a tank free of predatory fish and large aggressive invertebrates that would eat or bully it without hesitation. The biggest challenge is sourcing and maintaining the anemones it carries; captive-bred individuals sometimes lack them, and while they can be reattached, a crab without its pom poms looks stressed and feeds less effectively. Broadcast feed finely crushed meaty foods and phytoplankton a few times per week, and supplement with direct target feeding using a pipette or turkey baster to ensure this tiny animal is getting adequate nutrition.
