Care Summary
Slipper Lobsters are flattened, antennae-free crustaceans that are more sedentary than spiny lobsters but still pack a serious predatory punch toward small fish and invertebrates. They do best in tanks of 75 gallons or more with sandy substrate and rocky overhangs, and should only be housed with large, robust fish that are too big to be targeted. They are nocturnal and often hide during the day, so do not be alarmed if you rarely see yours, but do check that it is eating during evening feeding sessions. Offer meaty foods like clams, mussels, shrimp, and squid two to three times per week, preferably placed near their shelter so they can find it easily after lights out.
