Care Summary

Spiny Lobsters are impressive display animals that can grow quite large, with some species reaching over a foot in length, making tank size the first consideration before purchase. They need a minimum 75 to 125 gallon tank with ample rockwork and cave structures for shelter, and they will eat any fish, shrimp, or small invertebrate they can catch, so tankmate selection is critical. Nocturnal by nature, they are active hunters at night and will rearrange your rockscape regularly, so do not build any structures you are not willing to see disturbed. Feed meaty foods like shrimp, clams, mussel, and quality sinking carnivore pellets several times a week to meet their high nutritional demands.
