Care Summary
The Stone Crab is a heavily built, commercially harvested species from the Gulf of Mexico that occasionally shows up in the hobby as a novelty or biotope specimen. It needs a large tank with solid rockwork and no delicate invertebrates, as it is a genuinely aggressive carnivore that will make short work of snails, shrimp, and slow-moving tankmates. This crab is not reef-safe in any practical sense, its powerful claws are built for crushing shells and it will use them on anything it can catch, including coral frags left near the sandbed. Feed it whole clams, mussels, or chunks of meaty seafood several times a week to satisfy its appetite and reduce predatory behavior toward anything else in the system.
